This winter storm, our multi-day inclement weather plan includes activating six warming shelters — open during the day and overnight.
A wide-scale response across the region such as this puts a strain on our day-to-day operational costs like food, utilities, and staffing. Warming shelters cost an additional $7,000 per location, per day.
About 2026 North Texas Winter Storm Relief
Our warming shelters offer a safe place to seek refuge from the cold, food and drink, emotional and spiritual care, and additional supplies to help individuals and families experiencing poverty and homelessness stay warm. We expect to serve 20% more people than we do on an average day.
